ABSTRACT

Living in uncertainty situation is not easy for some human being. It gives effect for mental health and decreasing hope for sustainability harmonize living. Surprisingly, some people could live positively during crisis. It becomes a model on "how can we live such a tough situation". This study explored the positive effect of nostalgia on hope during crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The research applied predictive-correlational quantitative method with 315 emerging adulthoods from Indonesia having an age range from 18-25 years. Hope was measured using The Herth Hope Index (HHI) developed by Herth, adapted to the Indonesian version in the COVID-19 pandemic context by the authors. Meanwhile nostalgia was measured using the Indonesian version of State Functions of Nostalgia Scale which was adapted by Abraham, Ali, Andangsari, and Hartanti from Hepper, Ritchie, Sedikides, and Wildschut. Result has shown that nostalgia had a significant positive effect on hope. It can be concluded that nostalgia significantly gave a positive effect on hope during the uncertainty situation like the COVID-19 pandemic. Reminiscing a nostalgic memory that happened before the pandemic occurred help young people to eliminate negative mood, increase self-esteem, increase a perception of social relationships, and develop a perception towards the meaning of life which make someone less anxious. © 2023 EDP Sciences. ABSTRACT

Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.), a well-known spice, often used as an Indonesian traditional medicine or "jamu” ingredient which possesses immunostimulant effect as it contains curcumin. During the COVID-19 outbreak, the consumption of "jamu" tends to increase recently. However, the millennial consumers as one of the target markets do not like "jamu" due to its bitter taste. Accordingly, turmeric should be formulated as nata, namely "Nata de Curcuma” to become "friendly consumed". The study aimed to formulate nata obtained from the water juice of turmeric, to evaluate the physical properties, to identify the curcuminoids, and to test the hedonic. Four formulae of "Nata de Curcuma" consisting of turmeric, coconut water, sucrose, ammonium sulphate (ZA), vinegar, and those fermented with Acetobacter xylinum as a starter. Subsequently, the physical properties of nata including organoleptic, thickness, water content, and fiber content were evaluated. Moreover, curcuminoids in this formula were identified by performing thin layer chromatograph (TLC) method. The best formula of "Nata de Curcuma" contains the mixture of water juice of turmeric and coconut water (1:2) added by 30 g of sugar, 3 g of ZA, and 60 mL of starter. This formula exhibited the thickness of 1 cm and the diameter of 3 cm after 28-days-incubation. The organoleptic properties showed that yellow with the mixed odor of fresh turmeric and slightly coconut, a chewy texture with the specific taste of fresh turmeric but bitterless. The water content of this nata was 95.3% while the fiber content was 4.48% and it contained curcumin evident by the TLC profile. The hedonic test showed that the panelists didn't like the smell of nata due to its smell like turmeric, but they really liked the taste of nata as the unpleasant taste of turmeric was covered. Turmeric was able to be formulated into "Nata de Curcuma" which has the potential as functional food for immunostimulant. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has spread worldwide since the end of 2019. This virus infects humans and has also been found to infect animals. Viruses enter the human body through the ACE2 receptor on apical epithelial cells. ACE2 receptors are also present in animal epithelial cells, so the possible effects of cell damage due to SARS-CoV-2 infection in humans can also occur in animals. However, studies on the long - term effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection in animals, especially fertility, have not been widely reported. Therefore, this literature review aims to identify and analyze the long-term effects of SARS-CoV-2 virus infection on the function of the reproductive system of animals, especially protected wildlife. The data were obtained from literature published in PubMed-gov with selected keywords and several other filters activated. The study result s indicate that there is a possibility that animals infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus could cause infertility, so the application of health protocols is important for people who are in close contact with animals, especially wild animals.

ABSTRACT

The Babussalam Al-Firdaus Islamic Boarding School is located in the village of Bocek, Karangploso, Malang Regency, East Java. The owner of the boarding has been produced pasteurized milk which is performed by the students. Some of the obstacles faced by the students are the short shelf life of pasteurized milk about 5-7 days at 4 degrees C storage temperature, non-standard packaging, and the limitations of product distribution and marketing. The owner of the Babussalam Al-Firdaus Islamic Boarding School has a plan to develop dairy and bakery products. However, the students have limitation of knowledge and skills in processing those products, and the boarding school has limitation of processing equipment. To overcome these problems, our team, initiate the establishment of SMEs involving students at the Babussalam Al-Firdaus Islamic Boarding School through diversification of dairy-based processed products and bakery products. Firstly, introduction of some lectures including bakery products technology, milk processing technology, packaging and storage technology, food quality assurance and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Secondly, product trials and training activities are carried out offline by implementing health protocols due to the Covid-19 pandemic at the Food Production and Training Center (FPTC), Universitas Brawijaya. Some processing equipment was given to Islamic boarding schools to facilitate the production of bakery and dairy products. The new SMEs in the field of bakery and dairy products can be executed through the empowerment of students so as to provide additional income for the Babussalam Al-Firdaus Islamic Boarding School to be financial independence.

ABSTRACT

This systematic review is aimed to explore the researches that established students’ conceptual change process, both studies that facilitate conceptual change and studies that determined learner characters influencing conceptual change. Overall, 50 studies were examined in this review. The current study focused on the common characteristics of the literature, the conceptual change instructional interventions used and the methods used to assess them. This review generates four averments about the current study: (1) physics subjects have obtained more attention than other science domains;(2) the majority of studies were conducted on undergraduate students of various majors, not only science education students;(3) studies about conceptual change have developed from a cognitive-only perspective to metacognitive aspects;(4) design on conceptual change study has been dominated by quasi experiment with only pre and post-intervention. Based on these averments, the authors invite the future empirical studies to consider affective variables in designing instructional approach, focus on examining pre-service science teachers’ conceptual change through the implementation of an instructional intervention, and apply qualitative data collection methods regarding affective and metacognitive variables through the implementation of an instructional intervention. © 2022, Journal of Turkish Science Education. ABSTRACT

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-l9) has prompted the need to explore alternative culture systems at the household level to both increase people's resilience and close the gap of hunger inequality and under nutrition of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-2). In this study, Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) was grown using a soilless culture system (SCS) in three different household residences. The partitioning plant's behavior was observed for favorable impact from both organic and inorganic fertilizer treatments. Two-week-old common bean seedlings were grown in separate media consisting of organic fertilizer from chicken manure and inorganic fertilizer (NPK). Sprinkle-on media and foliar techniques were used to fertilize plants with inorganic Super-grow and organic fertilizer based on rice waste. As a control, Hoagland solution was used to irrigate plants in all locations. The result shows that both plants partitioning and shoot to root ratio were improved by the combination of chicken manure, NPK, and Hoagland. Super growth liquid fertilizer and rice waste fertilizer also showed similar positive results. However, the plants were inhibited when they came into contact with household wastewater containing detergent. We concluded that Common Bean could be adapted into the soilless culture system in household residences and also be integrated into the Biophysical economic circulatory model. Concurrently, more attention must be paid to the plant partitioning indicator while research scale-up has the potential to support the targets of the 7 SDGs. © 2022 Author(s).

ABSTRACT

Background: Malaria is a constantly challenging problem, notably in the Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic. The syndemic condition, malaria-COVID-19 co-infections, had been reported. Our previous study successfully revealed several compounds from Streptomyces hygroscopicus subsp. Hygroscopicus, including nigericin that has both antimalarial and antiviral effects. In malaria infection, Plasmodium falciparum Chloroquine Resistance Transporter (PfCRT) is the potential target for eliminating Plasmodium. Meanwhile, for SARS-CoV-2 infection, MPro is an essential protein for SARS-CoV-2 survival. This research aims to examine the potential effect of nigericin towards Plasmodium and SARS-CoV-2 by assessing its molecular interaction with PfCRT and MPro through molecular docking study. Methods: The protein target PfCRT and MPro were obtained from Protein Data Bank. Nigericin and the control ligand (chloroquine and N3) were obtained from PubChem. The pharmacokinetic analysis was done using SwissADME. Specific molecular docking was conducted using PyRx 0.9 and was visualized using LigPlot and PyMOL. Results: Nigericin has a large molecular weight, leading to the non-fulfillment of the Lipinski rule for oral administration. Through molecular docking study, the binding affinity of the Nigericin-PfCRT complex was -8.1 kcal/mol, and Nigericin-MPro was -8.6 kcal/mol. These binding affinities were stronger than the control ligand. The interaction between Nigericin-PfCRT and Nigericin-MPro share a similar pocket-site and amino acid residues as the control ligands. Conclusion: Nigericin has potential antimalarial and anti-coronavirus effects through molecular docking perspective by assessing the binding affinity and similarity of amino acid residues compared to control. Administration of systemic route can be an option in giving nigericin.

ABSTRACT

The Indonesian construction industry is one of the main sectors to support the economic growth in the country. According to a report published by the World Economic Forum, the construction industry currently accounts for about 6% of the world’s GDP. It is expected to reach around 14.7% by 2030. However, on the other hand, the image experienced by the construction sector is dominated by something low-tech, still relying on craft-based methods, characterized by poor performance and low quality. Therefore, it is essential that to better support the nation’s development, it is necessary for the Indonesian construction industry to invest more in the adoption, development, and application of technology. Material technology plays an essential role in construction projects. Based on a survey conducted to 40 Indonesian contractors, it was found that the priority of using concrete and steel materials ranked at the top during normal conditions and the covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, data about the history of development, utilization, and potential of construction technology, especially concrete and steel materials in Indonesia, is almost non-existent. This study aims to present the technological landscape of concrete and steel construction material, providing an overall view of the historical development of the utilization, contribution, and strategy for developing future construction material technology in Indonesia. In contrast, the information data is considered essential to help formulate policies regarding developing and utilizing construction technology in Indonesia. Therefore, this study will map the landscape of technology material in Indonesia. The methodology to be used is literature studies, interviews, and questionnaires.

ABSTRACT

Scout is one of the extracurricular activities in Indonesia. Currently, extra-curricular activities have decreased the number of members due to students' interest in other activities at their school. After COVID-19 pandemic, many students were no longer actively participating in Scout extracurriculars. Even though there are many benefits that can be taken in scouting activities, one of which is applying skill material such as learning codes, learning a form of cheating, general public knowledge, and even the ability to survive in protecting something. Scouting activities are the key to the practice of nation building in Indonesia. One way to increase student interest is by utilizing information technology. Scouting activities can be combined into a game with a scouting theme as is commonly played, which is like a educational puzzle to sharpen critical thinking. This research is more about the application of the SAHC algorithm for puzzle cases based on the scout trail game. The application of this method is to find a solution point from a predetermined character position. Interesting games can be used as promotions for students, so students can be interested in scouting activities. © 2021 IEEE.
